Dog Fennel is a herbaceous perennial weed, 4 to 5
feet, with finely dissected leaves that are strong smelling when
crushed. Minute, greenish-white, somewhat insignificant flowers bloom
in late summer. The small, 3-5 flowered heads are numerous and arranged
in large, leafy, pyramid-shaped branch-end clusters. Fruits are are
smooth achenes. The plant spreads by wind blown seeds and spreading
rootstocks, sometimes to the point of becoming invasive. Dog Fennel is
native to the USA, but has become naturalized in India and SE Asia.
